"Scarlet's Torment" by Krihstin Zink

Have you ever lost someone important in your life due to drugs? It's never easy to deal with. Drugs can/do change people in ways one can never expect. Scarlet's tiny life began as the perfect picture of what drugs can do to a mother with addiction issues. Given a second chance at life, Scarlet's mother has an epiphany and decides to atone her sins towards her innocent daughter by abandoning her in a restroom at the mall. We are unsure if this is out of selflessness or selfishness as the story continues. The outcome yields a golden opportunity for Scarlet, as she is introduced to an adoptive, loving, and supportive, well-off family. She is shown the proper care an impressionable child needs, and thus, was molded into a well-to-do Architect.

Almost by fate, Scarlet's company acquires the blue-prints to a new medical practice, and runs into David, a handsome, charming Gynecologist/pediatrician. The pair's relationship grows, budding into unbelievable happiness. Happiness that has Scarlet glowing from the affection she's receiving. That is until a stranger from David's past threatens to not only destroy their relationship, but Scarlet's life as well. To escape the amounting pressure of David's insane EX, Scarlet decides to take a road trip with her best friend; sure that time away would heal anything.

Scarlet couldn't have been more wrong, more dangers lie in wait for her as she and her best friend arrive. Will she escape the clutches of David's EX-lover? Or, will she become the very victim she's been running away from since birth? One thing's for sure, Scarlet has been through enough to hold her own, and will stop at nothing to survive.
I absolutely loved this book of struggle, love, and jealousy. I found it quite easy to jump into Scarlet's sad beginning, and as a reader we are able to develop along with her as she progresses through life. Truly a must read! Thank you Krihstin Zink for such a spectacular read!
