"The Blue Garou (Detective 'Cadillac' Holland Mystery Series Book 1)" by H. Max Hiller

"The Blue Garou" is a zesty New Orleans style, culturally rich novel, centered around an unsolvable murder. H. Max Hiller's ability to make his readers feel as if they were actually in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina, is impeccable. His attention to detail is bested only by his knowledge of the region. I have never visited New Orleans, but feel I've come to know more about the traditions, and food just from reading this story.

Detective "Cadillac" Holland decided to take a change of pace, and leave the intelligence community he'd grown accustom too, to become an officer of the law for Louisiana's State Patrol.  He felt this was his best option to finding out the whereabouts of his missing father who'd gone missing among the terrible wreckage of Katrina. As a fair amount of time passes, it becomes clear to Cadillac that he must change things up a bit and dig deeper. As his sister pushes Holland to pursue an infamous Pit bull as the cause for everything, Cadillac only begins to touch the surface of the rabbit hole. Soon, the Detective has more than he can handle when his findings wash up a well-to-do record label, a horde of missing weapons, an illegal dog fighting ring, and so much more. Will Detective Cadillac Holland be able to gain the upper hand and put a stop to the series of crimes connected to the murder? Or, will he become swept up in the madness of it all?

I found this enriching novel to be well written, and a fantastic read. Not only did I feel like I'd walked away from the book with a better understanding of the impact of Katrina, but I found an enticing novel. Give this Hard-boiled read a shot, you won't be sorry!

"Wounded World" by Ariele Sieling

What if I told you that in the future, one could walk through doorways, seemingly near magical portals that allowed humans to travel throughout outer space?  In "Wounded World," the line between reality and the unknown share a symbiotic relationship that transcends any science fiction novel I've read to date! I could not put it down and I don't think you'll be able to either.

When an unexpected and unauthorized door manifests in the middle of Quin Black's living room, he suspects his missing father of creating it, and leaving it behind. The knowledge that his father possesses is much sought after, and highly regulated to be deemed dangerous . These types of doorways are shortcuts between different worlds meant for Terra forming new planets, and common in the world Quin was reared in. Quin works for a futuristic government, and must find out where his father is to save the world from a catastrophic event. Accompanied by his friend John, Quin embarks on his mission, visiting other worlds in the process. He meets all different types of cultures, and faces different issues in each new world he comes across.

The World building in this novel is quite creative and unique. I found each planet they visited had a refreshing new environment and totally new experience. This novel is a must read, and can't wait to start the next book by Ms. Sieling.

"The Twins: A psycologocial thriller book one" by R.G Miller

This captivating, dark physiological read will have you at the edge of your seat, looking into the life of not one, but two young serial killers. Can you imagine double the trouble? Two seemingly innocent girls, are forced to become the very monster that morphs them into the spine-chilling duo they presently are in the book.

Sisters Jannifer and Stacey seem to be happy, and full of spirit. They have a loving family, and are living the life that most normal 13 year old's live. That is, until a horrible tragedy is forced upon the twins, leaving them no choice but to endure the torture of their beloved parents and of themselves. This single, staggering event, changes the young girl's lives in ways they could never expect. Ways, that transformed their impressionable minds into that of a serial killer. No longer the innocent, gentle beings they were before their parent's brutal murders, the twins embark on a spree of vengeance. What had my mind racing, was the fact that the Author's writing allows you to actually feel sorry for the twins, even as they commit atrocious acts of evil. Will they ever get caught? As a reader, I was torn between whether I wanted the twins to feel the wrath of the justice system...

I enjoyed every second of this thrilling story, and cannot wait to dive into the next book in the series. Just from reading the back of the book, it looks to be just as enticing as the first!

This chilling story begins with a nurse named Kate losing her beloved mother, and vowing to spread her ashes in Jerusalem at the Wailing Wall, something her mother would have wanted Kate to do. Her mother always wanted to visit, but never got around to it. Soon, we are introduced to Matt, a handsome potential lover for Kate, and they are swiftly immersed into each others lives .

Have you ever felt you'd lost time, or memories from your past out of nowhere? Almost as if something important was missing from your memory that you couldn't quite put your finger on? The talented Author of  "Another Time Another Chance," Steve Wilhelm paints the perfect picture of new love, that has no comparison to any book I've ever read before.

"TreeMakers" by Christina L. Rozelle

In this eye-catching Dystopian tale of uprising, "Treemakers" shines as a  dark, and inviting tale of a fallout world that could be. A world so decimated and twisted that the defenseless children are forced to basically take care of themselves. The remaining teenagers tend to the smaller children, and all the while the human population struggles to breath. Even just taking a stroll outside is out of the question. I was impressed with the depth the author dove into building the world of Treemakers, and could tell she took her time with this novel. She owns vivid descriptions throughout the book, and immerses the reader into the near-uninhabitable world, forcing them to understand the hardships of our story.

We are promptly introduced to a level-headed, 16 year old Joy (Momma), the kind and motherly type. She took it upon herself to nurture the younger children at the station (reminded me of Katniss from Hunger Games Actually :).  As you can imagine, Joy nearly overloads her days with responsibilities to the point where she nearly can't take it anymore. She's only human/slave, and can only take so much pressure under the reign of the awful Superiors who could careless about her. It occurred to me how amazing this young clan of colorful children could manage to take care of themselves with so much going on. It all came down to one thing, the will to survive. The children are forced to manufacture trees for precious oxygen that would be distributed across all of Bygonne. Joy has had enough, and decides to risk it all by finding out the truth behind everything she thought she knew. The plot thickens as she realizes the truth and Joy has no choice but to try their luck at escaping. Will they be able to make it? When so many others failed in the attempt? Not to mention there are hideous monsters lurking about, ready to snatch the children at any moment! One thing is for sure, no where is safe, and they had better keep their wits about them.

I would like to recommend some tissues before reading this novel. It has some heartbreaking elements that will absolutely make you have an ugly cry. If you can handle that, you'll absolutely love this story. It has deep plot twist, and all around a fantastic read. I'll definitely be reading Rozelle's next book!

"What Hides in The Darkness" by K.L Cottrell

"WHAT HIDES IN THE DARKNESS" has such an enriching, yet refined take on evil; what seemingly hides in the darkness from us all, ready to wrap it's retched, cold and menacing fingers around our throats to choke the life from the positive light of Good. Just what is it that we can't see? What goes *bump* in the night, forcing us to cringe back with fear and effortlessly tug the bed sheets over our eyes?

What if I told you that, sometimes the people you interact with in your day to day travels weren't what they seemed to be? Marienne, a relatively normal girl, takes the world a stride at a time and is having the time of her life with her friends, family, and even school. The path of solidarity set before her seemed concrete. That is, until the day of the accident. Now, she'd lost the thing most dear to her. Her loving parents, and that wasn't even the half of it. She'd also begun seeing MONSTERS in the guise of normal, everyday human beings. Her mind was rocked, and simply couldn't process what had unfolded before her eyes. What could she actually do anyway? Things had drastically changed in her life, and had floored Marienne so much, she was helpless to take on what she was witnessing.

Until Gabe pops into her life. Gabe is not like most men. He destroys the Monster's Marienne faces everyday. He's what can be described in the book as "Light," and looking for others to recruit like himself. Most potential LIGHT people do not know they have the same remarkable "gift" of seeing the alluding, masquerading monsters, and hide from society. Just like Marienne. She avoids most things in an attempt to flee the encroaching monsters. The two pair up just as all hell breaks loose, under the common unification of capsizing the evil of the world.

I highly recommend this riveting read. I was captivated by the author's ability to suck the reader in with her writing technique, and cannot wait for more from her brilliant mind! Please take the time to read this fantastic novel. It's the perfect mix of romance/urban paranormal, and will leave you reeling for more of our favorite pair. Thank you K.L Cottrell for such a compelling story.

"Scarlet Unleashed" by Krihstin Zink

Just when I thought Scarlet's life would turn out to be somewhat of a "fairy tale" ending, I read "Scarlet Unleashed" and was thrown for a loop, yet I was pleasantly surprised at the same time. Her life's been turned upside down, and twisted into a horrific reflection of what it could have been/is. I rather enjoyed the much darker tone of the second book, and couldn't wait to dive in to find out more about this interesting take on the world of Scarlet.

David and Scarlet's relationship isn't what it used to be. He easily casts off the things Scarlet claims she hears, without much attention to her feelings. But, she's not the same tormented girl she was in book one. We start book 2 with a much different "woman," and find that the voices she hears, is someone she knows. Scarlet is trapped inside her body with an unlikely foe, and is desperate for an escape. Everything you know and love about the first book is easily taken away from you, and no one is safe from the impending doom looming over key players in the story.

Scarlet tries to pick up the pieces, and start her life over. Unfortunately, she is stalled by the intruder plaguing her body, and more anguish ensues. Will Scarlet ever find love again? Will he be the right one? Can Scarlet ever rid her life of the emotional turmoil that seems to stick to her very skin? You'll have to read the book to find out! I highly recommend to anyone looking for a Dark Romance with a twist of a paranormal touch.

"Dark Illuminations:Book One" by A.A Colvin Jr.

"Dark Illuminations," is an intriguing, and thought provoking collection of short stories. Each short unfolds a dark, enriching story of mystery and the "what if". The Author has the uncanny knack of writing his shorts in in-depth layers, to create one well-rounded, foreshadowed story. I was completely pleased with the flow, and could easily fall inline within the books pages.

(As I've mentioned, the book is compiled of several stories. I have chosen my favorite to tell you about.)
"Broken Reality" is the perfect term to describe this short dubbed,"The Stairwell." This story is about a man named Daniel, and his wife Lisa. As you can imagine, the story starts out simple enough with the couple riding in a car, "discussing" visiting family. Which seems to be a hot topic among the pair. Instantly, we are thrown into a different set of pace when a horrific car crash occurs, leaving Daniel hospitalized. Tragedy spreads and Daniel is forced to discover that what he "thinks" is reality, isn't what it seems. A mysterious stairwell holds all of the answers about this unforgiving tragedy, and Daniel is faced with making a crucial decision. But, is it really his decision to make? This story is full of plot-twist, and dark corners! Are you ready?

I highly recommend this book to anyone seeking a thrilling, dark read. A.A Colvin paints a vivid picture of the unknown, and leaves the reader seeking more... I cannot wait for book 2 to be released, and will be keeping a close eye on this author!

"Remorse" by Cre Mills

Have you ever loved someone so much that you would do anything for them? Including taking another life? Or, allowing yourself to be beaten to the point of almost dying? This story follows a girl named Nevaeh Jamison, who is not all together innocent. But, is willing to do what she has to, to protect the one's she holds dear in her heart. Wouldn't you do the same?

Our story opens up, dark and menacing, with Nevaeh being beaten to save not only her life, but to keep a tragic secret from her sister. Immediately as a reader, I become worried for this character as she seems to expect her torture. What follows is an unspeakable horror, yet this is the day in the life of our poor main character, Nevaeh. A person whose own father treats like a worthless piece of trash, and forces to commit the crimes he cannot bring his own self to do. I have more hate in my heart for this man, than any person I personally know. Without giving too much away, we find that Navaeh has choices to make that will decide her fate, for she is at the end of her sanity.

I enjoyed this thrilling novel, and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a riveting, dark crime read. You won't be disappointed by the quality. I was easily able to jump into the story line, because the author's book was so well put together. For a debut novel, I was highly impressed! 5 STARS!!!

"Alex and The Wolpertinger" by Koos Verkaik

I've loved illustrated children's chapter books since I was a young sprite. Their usually epic stories that carry with you a lifetime of happy memories. Especially, those that remind me of warm nights nestled by the fire, listening to Hans Christian Anderson cassette tapes on the radio in the living room. While reading, I reminisced back to how truly remarkable those stories were, and of how they caught and easily kept my attention. Mr. Verkaik has done it again! This time it came in the guise of a children's book. I fell in love with this timeless story, and so will you.

About the book:
Mr. Verkaik paints a vivid portrait of the life of Alex, a boy from the Alps, who works in the land of the Giant Clover King. Alex is sent to help a magician, and finds a world of adventure before him. Alex meets Ludo the Wolpertinger, and the two embark on a creative trek filled with shrinking, talking animals, and giants beyond measure!

I rather enjoyed the tempo of this short, yet remarkably expansive story. I will definitely be getting this in paperback for my daughter to read when she is old enough. It has such colorful illustrations, and engaging artwork, that will easily keep your child entertained. The best part about this book, is that it's really for all ages. It reads like an adventure, one that any age can get behind. Five stars Mr. Verkaik. Truly an adventurous read!

"The Envelope: A Novel Inspired by the True Events of the Arizona Buddist Temple Massacre" by Jules Madrid

Have you ever woken from a deep sleep, immersed in the dream that defied everything you knew to be true in this world? Did you visit a lost, or deceased loved one? Were you able to play catch-up, and expose the person you have become in an attempt to get broken moments in time that never were with your beloved? "The Envelope" is a masterfully written story with blissful dreams of what might have been between a girl, and the true love of her life. Be careful though, this story is not for the faint of heart. There are times when you will need a box of tissue's ready! I cried my eyes out with this insatiable read. It was hard to put it down.

Tragically, Jules (our main character) is struck with the news that her best friend Mattie had been killed in the 1991 Arizona Buddhist Temple Massacre. Something no one foresaw to happen, and took the lives of irreplaceable friendships, and family.

Jules grew up, got married to a wonderful loving husband, had children, and lived life that was great. There's just one thing that might seem out of place to the trained eye. Jules is in love with a ghost. Or, at least what seems like a ghost. It's Jules dreams that sensually haunt her, and blur the lines of reality. Mattie, her life long friend visit's her sporadically, taking her out for a "night life" of bliss and remembrances. Jules is blindsided by the fact that he visits more often, and is addicted to the life of dreams, where she can be with anyone. People Jules lost in her life always made an appearance in her dreams, guiding her on life lessons, and repetitive dates. A mysterious letter, given to Jules by Mattie, allows her to communicate between her day life and night life. Will she forever stay in her world of dreams? Will she find the meaning of it all?

This captivating story tells a gripping journey of anguish, transcending love, and unforgiving loss, and will rock your very core. I am deeply touched by this story, and would love for you to share this woman's inspired plight for answers and closure. Give this alluring novel a shot, I promise you will not be sorry.

Have you ever lost someone important in your life due to drugs? It's never easy to deal with. Drugs can/do change people in ways one can never expect. Scarlet's tiny life began as the perfect picture of what drugs can do to a mother with addiction issues. Given a second chance at life, Scarlet's mother has an epiphany and decides to atone her sins towards her innocent daughter by abandoning her in a restroom at the mall. We are unsure if this is out of selflessness or selfishness as the story continues. The outcome yields a golden opportunity for Scarlet, as she is introduced to an adoptive, loving, and supportive, well-off family. She is shown the proper care an impressionable child needs, and thus, was molded into a well-to-do Architect.

Almost by fate, Scarlet's company acquires the blue-prints to a new medical practice, and runs into David, a handsome, charming Gynecologist/pediatrician. The pair's relationship grows, budding into unbelievable happiness. Happiness that has Scarlet glowing from the affection she's receiving. That is until a stranger from David's past threatens to not only destroy their relationship, but Scarlet's life as well. "The Magic of Murder" by Susan Solomon

I can't help that I'm a sucker for paranormal books about Witches and Witchcraft; this book did not let me down. This novel was a perfect mix of whit, magic, laughs, and mystery. Who knew all of that would come with such a fantastic read! I was impressed with the story line, and authors dedication to developing her characters. The light, facetious  remarks keep the reader entertained throughout the novel, page after page. This rare gem has everything that will make this story easily become a bestseller!

About the book:

"The Cabin" by Jessie Bradford

Even though this story isn't that long, it has a riveting effect on the reader. I finished the book in a matter of hours, easy read! I went into this story not knowing how suspenseful and thrilling it would be. I fell in love with Sam and Kyle's history. In the beginning it was innocent, friendship that seemed to blossom over night. Kyle secretly loves his long time neighbor and best friend Sam, and is too coy to express his feelings for her outwardly. Time passes, and their lives begin to shift in different paths. All the while, Kyle is always there for Sam. Even through the boyfriend's and breakup's. Time eventually heals everything, and they are able to remain friends.

Kyle loses his emotions when a hot-headed jerk coaxes Sam into dating him, and pushes Kyle's feelings to the side. John, plays the protective boyfriend and shelter's his relationship with Sam. A weekend out at an old cabin in the woods sounds like the perfect remedy to any ailing relationship. A jealous Kyle, and overbearing John, Sam, and a few other friends settle in on their vacation things go array. A nearby village of campers are murdered, and Kyle is left to pick up the pieces. He is forced by a band of murderers to do the unthinkable, and jeopardize his relationship with Sam. Tension rises as the band of friends escape the horrific nightmare. Things aren't over though, Sam finds out some life-altering news, and must face the truth of where it all began.

I found this story quite compelling. There are so many dark undertones to the central theme. I was impressed by the many layers brought into the story, and would recommend it for any avid reader.

"Evitable Destiny" by Izabela Monick

"Evitable Destiny" is a dark, yet contemporary romance, filled with erotic pleasures and deep revenge plotting. Love can hurt in several different ways, and on many levels. If only Chris (our main character) knew that he would reserve himself to abstaining any type of affection, for fear of accepting the same fate as his deceased mother. Kevin, his mother's ex-lover, ruined the helpless woman's life, and had to pay for his mistakes.

Lust and desire fog Chris's vision, causing him to force his hand on the kidnapping of Julia, his business rival Kevin's step daughter. The plot thickens
when Julia unexpectedly develops feelings for her abductor. (Much like the Stockholm Syndrome, a hot topic of discussion as of late). And, eventually a series of kidnappings torment Julia into questioning her feelings.

Expect no less than deep plot twists with this captivating story. You won't be disappointed. There is a bit of every genre in this novel, romance, erotica, suspense, thrills, etc. I can't get over the overall aspect of the underlying theme of reunion and trust. I'll be looking for more work(s) under this author's name to be released, and so should you...
